Unusal Powers of Mind over Matter

Friday, September 11th, 2009

I had the honor, a couple of months ago, to set in on a lecture by his holyness, the Dalai Lama. His amazing joyfulness made my mind wonder about the origin of his path.

Regardless of ones particular religion (or lack, thereof), one cannot help but be impressed with the life of Buddha. An actual prince who, after seeing the sickness and dying of his people, couldn’t help but take notice and feel it his duty to try to help.

According to various historical documents, he decided that the only way to do this was to achieve enlightenment and pass on his enlightenment to others. He also determined that in order to do this, he would first have to give up all his worldly possessions and live without.

Buddha defied his parents, left his palace and lived in a state of fasting and doing without. Maybe it wasn’t that difficult for him, but I know this wouldn’t be my first choice.

Most people don’t want to give up the good life. They think that money is a way to better our lives. That is why the lottery is so successful.

Of course, around 500 BC, health care at its best was probably nothing more than guesswork.

Buddha denied himself the comforts of living in the palace in order to ease the suffering of those around him. Research shows he wasn’t concerned about his own health.

Anyone who has rubbed the belly on a statue of Buddha knows that he did reach enlightenment and through that enlightenment knows he did finally pick up a fork or chopsticks and eat something.

Probably modern day nutritionists would look at his statue would not recommend this as a healthy weight seeing he was just a little bit overweight. We don’t really know for sure if Buddha belly was a factual picture or just represents a spiritual abundance, but you cant deny the smile on his face.

Even when surrounded by the common man, there is no evidence that supports his being a sickly sort. You might say that Buddha not being sickly was a reward of enlightenment. I tend to think it was the power of positive thinking.

Buddha lived without anger or hate. He didn’t seem to hold grudges. How many of us can say the same? It doesn’t have to be a big life tragedy to bring a person down. Sometimes dwelling on the small stuff, we get consumed with negativity.

There are too many studies which have shown that a positive outlook can greatly improve or maintain ones health. Likewise, negativity, depression and the like can just as easily destroy ones health.

I agree but I also believe that one sometimes needs a starting point in order to focus. If weight loss and/or high blood pressure are your ailments, I advise as the best course or choice my Weight Loss Breeze program or my High Blood Pressure program. If its stress thats led to headaches you should try my Migraine and Headache program. They are all natural and guaranteed to show amazing results!

Depression and Weight Loss - How to Eliminate Depression from Your Weight Loss Process

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

Depression is often reported as feeling sad, helpless, hopeless, and other related emotions and behaviors; this condition is often occurred in people on a diet. These are a few signs of depression:

1. Bad dreams or the inability to sleep soundly.

2. Loss of appetite.

3. Waking up in the middle of the night with difficulty getting back to sleep.

4. Hard time paying attention at work.

5. Anxious worrying.

6. Getting emotional or bursting into tears for no apparent reason.

7. Quick to anger.

8. Waking up still feeling worn out and exhausted.

9. Insomnia

There are two forms for this problem: the first one is being depressed for other reasons while trying to lose weight, the second is being depressed because the diet doesn’t show any significant result for quite some time.

If you experienced either of these problems, you need to solve it fast or you’ll never achieve your ideal weight. If the reasons are your environment, people in your life, jobs, or other external factors you need to track the source and solve the problem; but sometimes without you realized, the problem may lie within your diet itself:

1. Studies have shown antioxidants can help prevent depression. If you are depressed you should take stock of your diet and make sure you are eating foods that have high levels of antioxidants: spinach, broccoli, asparagus, apple, blueberry, blackberry, strawberry, black plum, and red beans.

2. Serotonin is the brain chemical used to regulate intestinal movements, control of appetite, mood, and anger. Research shown that eating a diet rich in whole grain carbohydrates and low protein will increase serotonin by secreting insulin, so if your diet restrict carbohydrates you must rethink about it. But remember not to increasing insulin for long period since it may cause insulin resistance.

3. Another study shown that low selenium levels in the diet can lead to irritability and depression; the government is recommend daily intake of selenium by 75mcg for men and 60mcg for women, so you should include food source of selenium in your daily diet such as cereals (corn, wheat, rice), walnuts, beef, chicken, egg, cheese, and tuna.

4. Regular exercise can reduce anxiety, stress and help with weight loss which can ultimately boost self esteem and help conquer depression. You don’t have to run a marathon. Something as simple as a walk can do wonders, as long as you do it on a regular basis.

If after dealing with the points listed above you are still feeling depressed it could be that you aren’t realistic about your dieting goals. Many people will have negative body images when they look in the mirror and will expect overnight results from their diet. Before you let unrealistic expectations sabotage your diet you need to get your head around the whole concept of a diet:

1. Some weight loss program may offer fast result and have tons of testimonials to prove it; but remember that our bodies build different genetically, so what works for them is not guaranteed will works for you too. If you are on a diet and lose significant amount on regular basis, that is enough, no need to aim 10 pounds in 10 days or other spectacular result; the final result is the most important, not your speed in losing weight.

2. There are various diet methods available right now; when you choose one to do, do not expect that you can do it easily and gain result immediately. Sometimes your body still needs time to get used with the program and you may not gain result for weeks; when this happens just stay calm, rearrange your plan, motivate yourself, aim for a goal, and start it again.

3. Sometimes you will have a day when you can’t or won’t follow the diet plan due to various circumstances such as party, eating out, getting sick, or just doesn’t feel like doing it. If that happen, just let it go and start anew on the next day; discipline is needed but don’t too strict with yourself, this is also the cause of depression.

Occasionally, feeling depressed and overwhelmed when dieting is completely normal. As long as you are following a well thought out diet plan that includes exercise with proper nutrition you will lose the weight you want to lose. You have to control your negative thoughts or they will make it impossible for you to accomplish your weight loss goals.

Depression Linked to High Blood Pressure

Monday, August 10th, 2009

Jokingly a customer of the high blood pressure program recently asked me if there could possible be a link between hypertension and depression.

Research does reflect a link between the two. Both ideas have been studied; hypertension leading to depression as well as depression leading to high blood pressure.

It has been proven that people suffering from depression are three times more likely to to develop hypertension than those who don’t suffer depression.

Also worth noting is that it is thought that people suffering from depression are more likely to engage in other contributors such as smoking, drinking and over eating. People suffering from depression are also less likely consistently treat hypertension.

However, surprisingly, even the people involved in the study who did not engage in poor eating habits, smoking etc. also suffered from high blood pressure.

What’s the main cause of hypertension for people suffering depression is a change in hormones.

Drugs taken for depression can also lead to high blood pressure.

So there is a definite link between high blood pressure and depression.

Now we’ll look at hypertension as the initial issue.

The link here tends to lead back to the high blood pressure medication. The side effects clearly state on many medications: DEPRESSION.

This shows us clearly how often trying to solve one issue actually creates another.

Although the person initially was kind of joking, it’s no question he was right assuming there may be a connection between the two conditions.

Stress shows up again and again as at least a contributor if not the cause of many problems. It really is no surprise that hypertension and depression can also result from it.

Practices that can help high blood pressure regardless of the cause:

Don’t consume too much alcohol. You may even notice sever rise in blood pressure after only having one or two drinks. If that’s the case, you should drink at all.

Do not smoke. Smoking create many problems including increased blood pressure.

Dine healthy. Try to eat enough fruits and vegetable and avoid sugar.

I also recommend my natural programs such as the High Blood Pressure Program and Weight Loss Breeze Program.
